Rather unfortunate for you. I read all comments, regardless of how insulting they are, because I find that small grains of truth can be found in some of the rude comments, and I find the remainder of the rude comments simply entertaining as they demonstrate the comment author's ignorance.

Reddit does have some reasonable, capable people commenting - absolutely. For me at least, those few are overwhelmed by the larger mass of rude posters trying to top each others insults. Its depressing to read, and I now avoid it.

I wasn't actually talking about commenters that didn't read the article. I was talking about the folk that actually _make a good point,_ and thus make me look stupid. :D

Your experience with negative comments on reddit is not unusual. I suspect that the quality of your article actually has very little to do with it, it has been my experience that many commenters there don't seem to have actually read the article. Sometimes I'm not sure they even bothered to skim it, rather they just read the title and start commenting. Criticism (and harsh criticism at that) is depressingly common.
